Which file format does my Happy machine read?
.DST
Happy machines read .DST, the standard commercial embroidery format that nearly every multi-needle machine understands. A DST holds stitches, jumps and colour stops but no thread colours, so you assign needles on the machine. The stitches are as precise as in any other format: all of them store positions in 0.1 mm steps.
All about the .DST formatWhat size designs can my Happy sew?
The frame on your Happy sets the limit, not the file. Round tubular hoops are sold by diameter (a 12 cm hoop fits about an 80 × 80 mm design), cap frames take designs about 50–60 mm tall and 110–130 mm wide, and the largest flat frames on single-head machines reach around 360 × 500 mm.
| Hoop | Sewing field | Typical models and uses |
|---|---|---|
| Round tubular hoop, 12 cm | About 80 × 80 mm of design | Small logos, sleeves and pockets |
| Round tubular hoop, 15 cm | About 100 × 100 mm of design | Left chest logos, usually 75–100 mm wide |
| Cap frame (270°) | About 50–60 mm tall × 110–130 mm wide | Structured caps; low-profile caps leave less height |
| Largest flat frames (single-head) | Around 360 × 500 mm | Jacket backs and large panels |
Frame sizes depend on the machine model and the frame maker, so check the frame list for your machine. Round hoops are sold by diameter: the largest square that fits is the diameter divided by 1.41, minus a margin.
How do I get a design onto my Happy?
Copy the .dst to a USB stick and load it into the machine's memory, or send it from your embroidery software. Assign needles to the colour stops, make sure the machine's trim setting matches how DST writes trims, and trace the outline to check the design clears the frame.
- 1Unzip the download and pick the .dst file.
- 2Load it into the machine from a USB stick or your embroidery software.
- 3Assign needles to the colour stops from the production sheet.
- 4Check the trim setting and trace the outline, then start.
Can I use the same DST on a Happy and a Tajima?
Yes. DST is shared across commercial brands, so one file sews the same stitches on Happy, Tajima, Ricoma or Barudan machines. Check that each machine's trim setting matches how the file writes trims, and set the needles from the colour list.
