Which file format does my Barudan machine read?
.DST
Barudan machines read .DST, the shared format of commercial embroidery. A DST records the stitches, jumps and colour stops in 0.1 mm steps behind a 512-byte text header, but no thread colours. Your download includes a production sheet with each colour stop, so you can assign needles before sewing.
All about the .DST formatWhat size designs can my Barudan sew?
Plan for your frames rather than the file format. A structured cap takes designs about 50–60 mm tall and up to 110–130 mm wide, a 15 cm round tubular hoop fits about a 100 × 100 mm design, and the largest flat frames on single-head commercial machines reach around 360 × 500 mm.
| Hoop | Sewing field | Typical models and uses |
|---|---|---|
| Round tubular hoop, 12 cm | About 80 × 80 mm of design | Small logos, sleeves and pockets |
| Round tubular hoop, 15 cm | About 100 × 100 mm of design | Left chest logos, usually 75–100 mm wide |
| Cap frame (270°) | About 50–60 mm tall × 110–130 mm wide | Structured caps; low-profile caps leave less height |
| Largest flat frames (single-head) | Around 360 × 500 mm | Jacket backs and large panels |
Frame sizes depend on the machine model and the frame maker, so check the frame list for your machine. Round hoops are sold by diameter: the largest square that fits is the diameter divided by 1.41, minus a margin.
How do I get a design onto my Barudan?
Load the .dst into your Barudan from a USB stick or the transfer method your shop uses. Assign a needle to each colour stop from the production sheet, confirm the trim setting matches the file, and trace the outline before you start sewing.
- 1Unzip the download and pick the .dst file.
- 2Load it into the machine from a USB stick or your usual transfer method.
- 3Assign needles to the colour stops from the production sheet.
- 4Trace the outline to confirm it clears the frame, then start.
Does the DST format limit how big my Barudan design can be?
No. A single DST move can't exceed 12.1 mm, but longer moves are split into several jumps automatically, so the limit is your frame's sewing field. For a jacket back of 250–300 mm, use one of your large flat frames and set the size before downloading.
