Our story

Every picture deserves to be stitched

StitchMyPic turns your own pictures into embroidery files your machine can sew, in seconds and for the price of a coffee.

Why we built it

If you own an embroidery machine, you know the moment. You have a logo for your kid's football club, a drawing for a gift, a customer's shop logo for a batch of caps, and your machine can't use any of it. It needs a stitch file, and a picture isn't one.

Until now, the answer was to pay a digitizer, usually somewhere between $15 and $60 per design, and wait a day or several for the file to come back. Hand-digitizing is skilled work and worth paying for on complex jobs. But for the everyday logo, monogram or flat-colour drawing, that's a lot of money and waiting for something you want to stitch tonight.

Desktop digitizing software is the other route, and it's powerful, but it's expensive and has a steep learning curve. Most home embroiderers and small shops don't want to become digitizers. They just want their design on fabric.

StitchMyPic is operated by Fleetiqo LLC, 1130 Ogletown Road, Ste #2, Newark, DE 19711, United States.

Under the hood

What the engine actually does

StitchMyPic isn't a filter that traces your image and hopes for the best. Its stitch generators come from the open-source Ink/Stitch project (more on that below), and an automatic layer on top applies the decisions a digitizer would make to every shape in your picture.

  • Thread-colour reduction

Your picture is reduced to a small set of solid thread colours, measured the way the eye sees colour, and tiny specks are merged so you don't get a hundred pointless trims.

  • Satin columns

Narrow shapes like letters, borders and outlines are sewn as satin columns whose stitch direction follows the curve of the stroke, for the smooth, glossy edge you expect from good embroidery.

  • Tatami fills

Larger areas get dense, flat tatami fill with staggered stitches, and neighbouring areas get different stitch angles so they stay distinct and catch the light.

  • Underlay & pull compensation

A light underlay is sewn first to stabilise the fabric, and shapes are widened slightly to counter the pull of the thread, so colours meet without gaps and outlines line up.

  • Smart stitch order

Each colour is sewn in a sensible order, nearest areas first, with travel stitches hidden under later layers and tie-ins, tie-offs and trims where they're needed. Fewer jumps, less trimming by hand.

  • Machine-ready formats

The result is written as a real stitch file: PES for Brother and Baby Lock, JEF for Janome, DST for commercial machines and EXP for Melco and Bernina, at the exact size you choose.

Built on Ink/Stitch

We didn't start from scratch. Ink/Stitch is the free, open-source embroidery extension for Inkscape, developed in the open by its community. Several parts of our engine are TypeScript ports of its code: the satin column (with its underlay and pull compensation), running and bean stitch, and decorative fills such as spiral, ripple, meander and guided fills. The lettering tool uses embroidery fonts from the Ink/Stitch project.

What we added is the automatic part. Ink/Stitch expects you to draw and set up every shape by hand; StitchMyPic reduces your picture to thread colours, splits it into shapes, decides which stitch type each one gets and plans the sew order, and all of it runs in your browser.

If you enjoy designing stitch by stitch, we warmly recommend trying Ink/Stitch itself. StitchMyPic is for the times you'd rather go from picture to machine in a minute.

What you can count on

  • Preview before you pay

See the stitch simulation for free. You only spend a credit on a design you're happy with.

  • Credits that never expire

Buy a pack once and use it next week or next year. Plans can be cancelled any time and your credits stay.

  • Your pictures stay yours

Digitizing runs in your browser. We store your upload only so you can reopen your designs, and we never sell your data.

  • Honest about limits

Logos, lettering and flat artwork stitch beautifully. Photos are harder, and we'll tell you so rather than oversell.
